We then headed back into town to the Castletown Distillery, a small friendly establishment with a good range of craft ales. You can also book a day here where they take you through the process of distilling your own gin. After a pleasant hour, we left for our final destination, just around the corner to the Shalimar Curry House.

We had our final pint of the evening with our traditional poppadoms, it was suggested we had a starter, which is not usual and I think a few of us regretted it later, as we struggled to walk home.
Various curries with rice and nan's followed, which l think was enjoyed by the majority.

At about 9pm we started to disperse in various directions by car, taxi, bus and train. I think everyone made it home safely apart from Hughie, who when last seen was riding up and down on the train between Stoke and Manchester!

Meanwhile Steve, after the trauma of the event is under sedation in a darkened room under the watchful eye of a night nurse!!!

A Plod and Gander around Newcastle         Friday, 27th January in the year 2023.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly descended on Newcastle and met at Mellards Bar for the first Squarry Curry Do of the year.

Present (in no particular order), Pedro, Goosey, Yup, Huge, Ali G, Tony, Turk, Jaycee, DC, Handy, Nails, Bolt, Les and a brief guest appearance from Digger, complete with leg cast.
Next via the underpass, we strolled out of town along King Street to Zimmerman's a cosy friendly bar themed on Bob Dylan.
We again were here for a couple of pints, plus the added bonus of a tour of its nearby sister bar a Hard Day's Night with a huge amount of Beatles memorabilia. I think we all thought it was excellent.

After a pleasant hour and a couple of pints we left Mellards for the short stroll to the Crossways. Here snacks were supplied eventually, Steve had ordered a wonderful spread from the Greek Bakery close by, unfortunately an oven problem delayed their arrival by half an hour, but everyone seemed to enjoy them with a couple of pints, and the guest appearance of Digger. Plus a big thank you to Rich the landlord for opening up two hours early for us.
